The Company...
A well regarded advisory firm in the North Shore is seeking an accomplished tax professional to join their team in a senior leadership capacity. This is a genuine partner track opportunity offered to someone who has the technical depth, leadership capability, and commercial drive to earn a seat at the table within one to two years.

The firm services a diverse SME client base across multiple industries, delivering personalised tax, compliance, and business advisory services. They are known for their high quality work, collegiate culture, and commitment to developing exceptional people into long term careers.

If you are a technically strong tax professional who is ready to step beyond pure compliance work and into a role that rewards leadership, client relationships, and business development then this is the role for you.

The Role...
Reporting directly to the CEO and forming part of the Executive Team, you will take ownership of the Tax & Compliance function. You will lead and develop a talented team, manage a substantial portfolio of SME clients, and play an active role in the strategic direction of the firm.

The title — Manager or Head of Tax & Compliance — will reflect your level of experience. What is non negotiable is your ambition: the firm is looking for someone who wants to become a partner, and who has the skills and hunger to get there.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver year end financial statements, income tax returns, and strategic tax advice across all entity types including companies, discretionary, unit and hybrid trusts, partnerships, personal, and SMSFs
  • Provide expert advice on business structuring, tax planning, and restructuring
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of SME clients across diverse industries
  • Oversee the financial performance of the Tax & Compliance team incorporating WIP, billing, pricing, and profitability
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team including both in house and outsourced staff
  • Manage dealings with the ATO and other regulatory bodies on behalf of clients
  • Participate actively in the Executive Team, contributing to firm strategy alongside the CEO
  • Build your personal brand and contribute to business development as part of your progression to partnership
You...
Qualifications & Experience
  • Master of Taxation (strongly preferred)
  • CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in business services and tax advisory
  • At least 2–3 years in a management or team leadership role
  • Proven track record managing a portfolio of SME clients autonomously
  • Broad industry exposure, with deep expertise across at least three sectors
Technical Skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Australian tax law, compliance requirements, and financial reporting
  • Demonstrated experience across all entity structures — trusts, companies, partnerships, SMSFs, and personal
  • Strong background in business structuring, tax planning, and strategic advisory
  • Experience dealing directly with the ATO and regulatory bodies
  • Proficiency in Xero and other accounting and practice management platforms
Leadership & Commercial Capability
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills, with experience managing in-house and outsourced team members
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to manage team level financial performance and profitability
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to contribute at an Executive Team level
  • A genuine appetite for partnership with demonstrated or developing skills in client development, personal brand building, and revenue generation
This is a genuine, structured pathway to partnership within 1-2 years. To maintain confidentiality, the employer's name will be shared with shortlisted candidates only. To apply, please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and your interest in the partner track pathway to jquigley@sbrecruitment.com or call Jenny on 02 9002 5005.
