Senior IR / ER Specialist | NSW Government

A well-respected NSW Government organisation based in the Sydney CBD is seeking an experienced IR/ER Specialist to oversee employee and industrial relations matters, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.

This is a 6-month contract with hybrid working arrangements based out of the Sydney CBD. The ideal candidate will have proven experience within the NSW Public Service and a strong understanding of the Government Sector Employment (GSE) Act.


The Job…..
In this IR / ER Specialist role, you will be responsible for:

• Provide strategic IR/ER advice and business partnering to leaders and stakeholders
• Interpret and advise on employment legislation, Awards, and enterprise agreements
• Manage complex employee relations cases, offering proactive, solution-focused guidance
• Lead enterprise bargaining and negotiations with industrial associations
• Analyse and deliver clear oral and written advice on employment law matters
• Research and resolve complex workplace issues in line with legal frameworks and best practice
• Foster collaborative relationships across the business to ensure compliant and effective outcomes

• Experience in the NSW Public Service and familiarity with the GSE Act is essential
• Tertiary qualifications in Law, IR, HR, or related field, or significant experience in managing industrial matters
• Strong experience in providing strategic IR/ER advice, negotiations, and Award/legislation interpretation
• Proven ability to manage workplace disputes, grievances, and investigations
• Leadership experience in industrial negotiations and providing sound advice
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills
• Strong problem-solving abilities with practical solutions
