The Opportunity
SB Recruitment, in collaboration with Obsidian Advisory, is seeking two skilled and motivated IT Business Analysts to join the business in Sydney.
These newly created roles will support Obsidian Advisory's digital transformation initiatives — from streamlining internal accounting systems and workflows to building better client-facing solutions for UHNW clients.
You will serve as a critical bridge between the firm's accounting professionals and the technology platforms that power its work. Salary: $90,000 + Superannuation per annum.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse, document and re-engineer internal business processes across accounting, tax, bookkeeping, payroll and CFO service delivery workflows
- Work with partners and service teams to gather and translate business requirements into functional technology specifications
- Lead and manage the implementation and integration of accounting and business software systems, including Xero and associated cloud platforms
- Conduct usability assessments, A/B testing and stakeholder interviews to identify pain points and system improvement opportunities
- Design BPMN-level process maps (Level 1–3) to document end-to-end operational and information flows
- Collaborate with external software vendors and developers to deliver technology solutions on time and within scope
- Develop and maintain business intelligence reporting and KPI dashboards to support data-driven decision making for partners and client-facing teams
- Apply machine learning or AI-assisted tools to automate and accelerate business process design and client data analysis where appropriate
- Provide training and documentation to internal staff on new systems and workflows
- Support planning for CapEx, HR requirements and project delivery timelines for technology initiatives
- Report on project progress and technology requirements to the executive team and external stakeholders where required
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of full-time experience as a Business Analyst or IT Business Systems Analyst
- Minimum 3 years of full-time experience working with UHNW individuals
- Demonstrated experience using Agile methodology to deliver IT projects
- Strong proficiency in process mapping tools (Visio, BPMN) and project management platforms (MS Project, Trello, Jira or similar)
- Experience gathering business requirements through stakeholder interviews, workshops and qualitative/quantitative research methods
- Solid understanding of software development life cycles (SDLC) and system integration projects
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and digital collaboration tools including Zoom, Slack and Google Workspace
- Proven ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong documentation, report-writing and presentation skills
- Experience with cloud accounting platforms, particularly Xero
- Familiarity with financial services, accounting or professional services environments
- Experience working in multicultural and internationally distributed teams
- Exposure to machine learning, AI-assisted tools or data-driven business process automation
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects ahead of schedule and within budget
- Experience mentoring team members or conducting training workshops
- Work directly alongside experienced Chartered Accountants and partners in a collaborative, non-hierarchical environment
